Just starting to run
March 1, 2007
As a mid-forty year old who’d just stopped smoking 40 a day, I decided to start running. I soon ran out of both breath and enthusiasm and realised that in order to begin running successfully I would need a systematic approach that accounted for my age and history.
I started looking for and trying out suitable training plans, avoiding and treating injuries, considering diet and nutrition, finding suitable running shoes and kit and dealing with the inevitable issues that confront runners in both cities and countryside.
This website contains information that I found useful as a middle aged, novice runner and is updated as I come across or are sent new ideas.
Before starting to run, or embarking on any serious exercise, it’s advisable to get a medical check first. This is especially important if you have any adverse medical history.
